Course description

This CPD certified online training course is for anyone who works or volunteers with babies and families in the antenatal or postnatal period including midwives, health visitors, public health nurses, social workers and early years practitioners.

Are you aware of the potential risk factors within families that may increase the risk of babies under 1 experiencing non-accidental head injuries (NAHI)?

Working with parents and carers during the antenatal or postnatal period, you play a vital role in protecting babies who may be at risk of harm.

It can be difficult to spot the potential risks of traumatic head injury. In some cases, signs can be missed because the complex and often combined risk factors that can lead to injuries are not recognised.

This course will help you to:

  • understand the prevalence of non-accidental head injury (NAHI) in babies under the age of one
  • identify the risk factors for NAHI and understand which babies might be at increased risk
  • recognise the early warning signs a child could be at risk and the potential triggers for parents and carers
  • create a supportive environment for parents and carers
  • engage fathers and male carers.
